Pre-release readers are calling it suspenseful, inventive, and irresistible:
Early readers describe Birds of Prey as a thrillingly cohesive collection — proof that a single creative challenge can unite the genre's best voices into something greater than the sum of its parts.
Reviewers note that the bird-of-prey conceit is anything but a gimmick, with each author using their chosen creature to unlock a story that feels surprising, personal, and utterly distinct.
Kirkus awarded the collection a coveted starred review, praising Coben and Box for their "eagle eye for what makes a good story" and calling the anthology a celebration of predators both airborne and earthbound.
Booklist calls the collection "thoroughly enjoyable," noting that the eleven contributors deliver an assortment of tales that "fly in a well-formed flock."
This book is for you if:
You love short fiction that packs the punch of a full novel, with every story delivering its own satisfying twist.
You're a fan of one or more contributors and have been waiting for new work from your favorite thriller writers.
You appreciate when a creative constraint — like choosing a bird of prey — pushes authors to produce their most inventive writing.
You enjoy anthologies that can be savored one story at a time, making Birds of Prey the perfect companion for busy readers.
Quotes:
“Harlan Coben challenged 11 crime writers to create a short story involving a bird of prey. They delivered an assortment of tales that fly in a well-formed flock. . . . Thoroughly enjoyable.”
