Leo Gnawa is a Washington, D.C.-based author and homelessness advocate who wrote Homeless Lives Matter directly from his own experience living on the streets. He became known throughout the district for selling and signing copies of the book in person, using his story to put a human face on an issue too often reduced to statistics. Since its release, Gnawa has continued writing and advocating on behalf of the unhoused community, authoring additional books including Homeless People Are Human Beings Too and Survival and Life: The Lessons I Learned.
-
Pre-release readers are calling it eye-opening, compassionate, and unflinching:
Early readers describe Homeless Lives Matter as an unflinching look at survival most of us never have to face.
Others say it's the kind of book that changes how you see the people you pass on the street every day.
Many highlight Gnawa's writing as approachable and clear-eyed, even while tackling a difficult subject.
Several reviewers call it required reading, a first-hand account paired with real facts and resources on homelessness in America.
This book is for you if:
You want to understand homelessness from someone who has actually lived it, not just studied it.
You’re looking for a short, powerful read that changes how you see the people you pass on the street.
You appreciate memoirs that pair personal story with hard facts about a larger social issue.
You want a clearer picture of the resources and systems, or lack of them, available to people experiencing homelessness.
You’re drawn to stories of resilience and dignity in circumstances most of us will never have to face.
“★★★★★ You’re renting a brand-new hardcover for $12 instead of paying $30+. Even if you keep it, you come in under what you’d pay elsewhere.”
