Critics and fellow bestselling authors are calling it vivid, unsettling, and brutal:
“Vivid, unsettling, and darkly compelling, The Calamities is Chuck Wendig at his best.” —Veronica Roth, #1 New York Times bestselling author
“The Calamities is a twisting, winding river of darkness—part ink-black Gothic tale, part brutal family saga, and housed in a demonic nesting doll of a dark fantasy novel.” —Keith Rosson, author of Coffin Moon
“The most terrifying thing about these demons is how human they are. The Calamities is a delightfully brutal and inventive take on demonology.” —Chris Panatier, author of Daytide and Worry Box
“A massively ambitious, classic horror free-for-all that’s macabre, smart, and FUN.” —Sarah Langan, author of Good Neighbors and Trad Wife
This book is for you if
You believe the families left in the wake of the truly powerful deserve a reckoning of their own.
You want a dark fantasy where inherited wealth behaves exactly like inherited magic—seductive, corrupting, and nearly impossible to refuse.
You're drawn to characters caught between the life they were born into and the one they'd choose for themselves.
You loved the moral shadows of The Book of Accidents and want Chuck Wendig to go even darker.
You want occult fiction that's as much about family as it is about monsters.
“★★★★★ You’re renting a brand-new hardcover for $12 instead of paying $30+. Even if you keep it, you come in under what you’d pay elsewhere.”
