Pre-release readers are calling it transporting, atmospheric, and suspenseful:
Booklist (starred review): “Rich details set the stage in each of the timelines, with compelling characters and lots of plot strings that, in Williams’ deft hands, all weave together in a supremely satisfying read.”
Emily Giffin, NYT bestselling author: “An utterly transporting novel…one of the most gorgeous love stories I’ve read in a long time."
Annabel Monaghan, NYT bestselling author: “A beautifully woven story of passion, survival, and buried treasure”
Bookreporter.com: “It’s engaging, fascinating, moving and, above all, entertaining. This is Beatriz Williams at her best.”
This book is for you if
You want a beach read that braids three timelines together—present-day grief, a 2012 first-love flashback, and a 1717 pirate romance—without losing the thread.
You’ve got a soft spot for the disgraced-athlete-finds-redemption arc, and you want Ben Ressler’s comeback tied to a genuine second-chance romance.
You love a decaying New England family estate with hidden debts, a dead man’s obsession, and buried treasure that might actually be real.
You want your romance served with an actual mystery attached—someone is breaking into Lucy’s house, and it isn’t a subplot you’ll forget about.
You’ve already fallen for Beatriz Williams’ Winthrop Island (from The Summer Wives) or her Wicked City books and want another reason to go back—or you’re brand-new and want to start with a book critics are calling her best.
“★★★★★ You’re renting a brand-new hardcover for $12 instead of paying $30+. Even if you keep it, you come in under what you’d pay elsewhere.”
